What is an American Baptist Church?

First Baptist Church is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches in the USA. Our denomination was known 50 years ago as the Northern Baptist Convention.

We believe the Bible is our authority for faith and living; we are committed to sharing our faith in Jesus. We do mission work both locally and globally.

We encourage individuals to grow in their personal relationship with God through learning spiritual practices such as prayer, meditation, reading the Bible, and worship.

We believe being a Christian includes belonging to a local community of faith where we love, worship, encourage, and help each other.

American Baptists were in the forefront of the American Civil Rights movement and were one of the first denominations to ordain women into the ministry.

Our Pastor
First Baptist Church of Salem, MA is proud to have as its pastor the Reverend Dr. Renee P. Wormack-Keels, who brought her ministry and talents to FBC in September 2007. In addition to her Masters of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees, Pastor Renee has served in pastoral ministry for over 15 years. She has extensive work in the areas of education, counseling and support programs, and has participated in many workshops, forums, and special religious programs.
